The First International Meeting within Civil Society Dialogue Food Safety Project was carried out in Valencia!

The first international meeting of “Food Safety” project under Civil Society Dialogue Programme which is co-funded by European Union and Turkish Republic was carried out on 23rd-27th May of 2016 in Valencia/Spain.
A board of 8 people from SETBIR Office of Secretary General and delegates from SETBIR’s member companies visited FEDACOVA (Valencia Regional Food Business Federation) that is project partner and they consulted about EU food safety, food additives and the implementation of labelling.
As part of this visitation, several dairy and red meat plants, dairy farms and a research center in Valencia Region were visited.
In the opening meeting which was in the FEDACOVA’s office in the first day, information about regulations and implementations of EU food safety was informed by FEDACOVA’s authorities. After that, “Granja Rinya” which was started as a family business and then become an organisational structure and produces cheese and milk puddings was visited and its manufacturing plat was toured. In this context, the information about good manufacturing practises and implementation of food safety and also label of products was gotten.
In the afternoon, “AINIA Technology Center” that usually found a way out for innovation needs for small, medium and large scale enterprises was visited. This technology center carries on work about food and health, food quality and safety, industrial design and production, sustainability, the activities of food regulations, consumer taste tests and analytical services. It is usually financed by firms and projects.
The most modern and largest slaughter house in Europe calls “Martinez Loriente” was visited in the second day. All the slaughtering stages were seen in the business that has 500-550 heads cattle slaughtering and has high technology. The implementation aimed at carcass grading system that is applied in EU was investigated on site and the detailed information was gotten from the authorities.
In the morning of the third day, the visitation to dairy farm calls “Granja San Ramon Requena” which has 2700 heads cattle was carried out. The biogas facility within the dairy farm vas visited and the detailed information about it was gotten.
In the afternoon of the third day, the facility of “DANONE” in Valencia vas toured and its manufacturing plant was also seen. The information about good manufacturing practises, job safety and labelling was learnt in the enterprise in where usually produces dairy products including health declarations.
In the last day of the international meeting programme, the final meeting was hold with FEDACOVA’s authorities and firm visits, opinion and suggestions were evaluated.
About Food Safety Project
The project that is carried out by SETBİR aims to strengthen communication and collaboration between non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that work about food safety and food additives. The project that takes place in partnership of Valencia Regional Food Business Federation (FEDACOVA) of Spain is performed in Ankara, Izmir, İstanbul and Valencia.
In the project, providing the collaboration between NGOs belong to food sectors in Turkey and EU, raising awareness for SMEs and consumers about food safety and food additives are aimed within Turkey’s EU process.
Organising the trainings and seminars which aim to give exact and essential information about food safety and food additives to SMEs and consumers has planned within the project. In the same time, getting information about EU member countries implementation of food safety and food additives, regulating good practises examples and transferring them to related groups via training, seminar and internet have provided.

Civil Society Dialogue Programme was improved as a platform that makes together societies to know each other and to exchange the information. Thereby NGOs from Turkey and EU member countries league together in the common issues.
Civil Society Dialogue Programme that is co-funded by Turkish Republic and European Union within The Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) is carried out by Ministry for EU Affairs. Central Finance and Contract Unit is a contract authority and the programme has different subjects and NGOs since 2008.
About Civil Society Dialogue Programme 4. Phase: More than 200 organisations from 21 different countries make actual 80 dialogue projects. Financial support 11 million Euro about environment; energy; consumer and health protection; justice, freedom and security; right of establishment and freedom to provide services; regional policy and coordination of structural instruments; enterprise and industrial policy; agriculture and fisheries and education. So the financial support for the dialogue projects until present is more than 42,5 million Euro. Number of partnership in all programmes with EU’s projects that spread to 9 policy spaces is around 600.
